Talent Days at the Nyenrode Business Universiteit
Four winners chosen during the Talent Days Finals
The winners of the Talent Days 2011/2012 are..
With a very competitive spirit and an enormous surprise in the end, the final round of Talent Days has its winners. The participants in this phase of the competition were chosen out of five finalists selected during the February edition added to the six finalists previously selected from the December 2011 edition.
The contenders began the final round with an intensive individual assessment followed by a workshop. These were the first clear signs of how demanding the programme would be. During the final round of the Talent Days, partsicipants were also exposed to new business skills that built upon skills and concepts introduced in the first round.
As the day passed by and the competition became tougher, the contenders were requested to come up with a business project and present it to a panel of experts. Although the participants were clearly anxious, they didn’t allow themselves to be intimidated and produced really creative ideas impressing the jury, and proving not only their skills but also their level of motivation.
The event reached its climax with the announcement of the winners and along with it a surprise: instead of the usual three winners, four were chosen. The first and second places went respectively to Barbara Jepma and Inez van der Sande; third place was a tie between Quirijn van Zon and Jord Dijkstra. The winners received scholarships valuing €15,000 (first place), €7,500 (second place) and €5,000 (third place).
At this time Nyenrode New Business School would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who participated in the Talent Days and say that it was very gratifying to go through this experience with all of you: no matter the outcome. From these days remain the lessons which can be used as know-how for future endeavours.
The Talent Days
The Talent Days are a good opportunity in which students that graduated or expect to graduate from a VWO, HAVO or IB school have to discover what business talents they have and if their motivations and ambitions fit the BBA New Business Bachelor Programme. Each year there will be six editions: January, February, April, May, June and December.
Participants of the Talent days will be grouped in teams and take part in a series of challenging activities that will allow each individual the chance to showcase his/her entrepreneurial potential and meet other high-potential aspiring entrepreneurs. These activities will be composed of a business game, elevator pitch contest, debate, teambuilding exercise – in which participants will learn how to play rugby – and an entrepreneurial profile assessment. In addition to this, all participants will have a feedback session with professionals and will receive a report based on individual accomplishments, as well as on group activities, stating their strengths and weaknesses. The first rounds of each Talent Days will be held on Nyenrode Business Universiteit’s campus.
Final round and scholarships
Although these activities combined may seem pretty intense, they are not everything: on top of all that, a few number of participants will be selected to proceed to a next and final round. The selection of these participants will be based on the overall performance of each individual during the 2-days programme at the campus of Nyenrode Business Universiteit.
The chosen participants will be allowed to continue in the final round, in which the competition gets more intense and the players will have to prove that more than business talent they have motivation and ambition enough to win one of the scholarships – the scholarships combined can total an amount of €65,000. The final round of the each Talent Days will have as venue our school located at Weteringschans 165 – Amsterdam.

Nyenrode is the only private university in the Netherlands. In 1946, captains of industry from leading Dutch corporations as KLM, Shell, Unilever, Philips and Akzo, took the initiative to start an institute where an action-inclined, internationally focused generation of new business leaders would be educated. Nyenrode’s ambition is to deepen the knowledge of our internationally oriented, carefully selected students towards sustainable leaders, robust accountants and agile and creative entrepreneurs. For business, by business has been our motto from the day our institute was established. It still defines the university and assures that practical relevance is of main importance to our faculty.
Nyenrode New Business School opened in 2006, in cooperation with the University of Westminster, and offers an international Bachelor degree in New Business. Both academic development and professional development are central to the programme: it represents the third path in higher education in the Netherlands that allows students to develop themselves into creative and responsible business men and women. Projects in India, Ethiopia and China and a semester in London contribute to the student’s international ambitions.
